Tree Studies in Santa Fe

This new series are studies of trees in Santa Fe, NM in black and white with the addition of textural backgrounds and specialty borders. The series was inspired by Asian Scroll Paintings.

In winter, the Siberian Elms lose their leaves and take on these sinuous, phantasmagorical black shapes against the early morning blue sky. Each one is different and makes its own unique statement. I add textural backgrounds and special borders to make them in my own vision.

This New Series comes from a group of double exposure studies of Siberian Elms in Santa Fe during the winter. I've always been fascinated by the stark and sinuous shapes of the barren trees in Winter, so black and bold against the morning sky. In post-process I added various textures and borders to give them more of an Asian Scroll Painting Look. I was inspired by the unique qualities of Yoshitoshi's Wood Bock Prints.
