Drew learned the technical aspects of photography at San Francisco State and U.C. Berkeley. His real education came from studying the work of great photographers and artists in museums and galleries. Everything from classical to modern art has informed his work.
Drew Reese was born in Annapolis, Md. and was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2000 Drew and his wife moved to Joshua Tree, Ca. where he turned his focus on the desert landscape. He participated in shows at the Joshua Tree Art Gallery, the ACE show at the Palm Springs Art Museum and Norco College.
He resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he shows in the Santa Fe Studio Tour and continues his photo explorations of the hi-desert landscape. He has been featured on Instagram with ICM Artists, ICM Photography Magazine, Spectaculum Magazine, Edge of Humanity Magazine and Nart Artistic Presentations. Recently, he won a Juror's Award for Winter Music from Exposure Photo Gallery.
I like to think that my photography is about the movement and energy I see in my subjects. I take a more painterly approach in my photography, seeking a deeper meaning than what is obvious on the surface. I employ double exposures, slow shutter speeds and intentional camera motion as part of my process. Intuition and pure chance are also part of the mix. In post-processing, I sometimes add various textures and exotic borders to complete the picture I desire. This enables me to make images that are uniquely mine.
